Illario’s live show is a sensual mix of jazz, funk, R&B, and hip-hop, and her debut EP, “Peach,” turns five jazz standards on their collective ear with modern grooves that recall the late Amy Winehouse. Bob Makin – USA Today –
Growing up, my parents always had great music on in the house. In High School, I sang in the acapella choir, and we competed nationally. However, it wasn’t until later when one night I was in China Town on my birthday, and my friends were playing. They were doing jazz. I went inside and they invited me onstage. I knew I wanted to sing, but I wasn’t serious about it. We played Etta James’ ‘I’d Rather Go Blind.’ It was amazing. It felt so divine. It was that moment I knew I wanted to be a singer.
